The last few weeks
have been pretty crazy. I thought Virginia weather was crazy but it's nothing
compared to Colorado. One day warm and sunny, the next morning a blizzard. Ok,
blizzard might be a stretch, but I didn't expect to be walking around in 5+ inches
of snow before Halloween. For some reason we have a sled in our apartment, so
we went to a little hill nearby and made the most of the snow, since it'll all
probably melt in a few days.
I'm still in Castle
Rock with Elder Jex, so he'll be my companion until he goes home. I've never
had a companion of mine be at the end of their mission, so this should be fun.
Elder Jex has served a great almost 2 years, I'm glad I get to keep serving
with him for the next while.
We've still been able
to do service, although we can only enter people's homes for a short amount of
time. One lady we moved was a neighbor of a member of our church. I've never
been so nervous during a move. We moved tons of paintings and decorations, more
than many museums I've been in. The husband had some health problems, and no
moving company wanted to risk moving so many expensive things, so luckily we
could be of help. Even though she has a different religion, she respects what
we do and was super kind to us, even though we were only able to fit a fraction
of her belongings in the moving truck. She said she's going to build and open a
museum in Texas, so I'll be on the lookout for that.
One
scripture that stuck out to me from my studies the last few weeks was Alma
25:14 which says:
"And they buried their weapons of war, according as
their brethren had, and they began to be a righteous people, and they did walk
in the ways of the Lord, and did observe to keep his commandments and
statutes."
This verse describes the repentance of the Lamanite people.
In order to truly repent and change for the better, they buried their weapons
of war.
In our own lives, we
may also have weapons of war, things that are keeping us from repenting and
feeling God's love. Whether our weapons are an attitude or something we're
doing that's taking us further away from God, burying them will allow us to use
Christ's atonement in our lives, and will help us come unto him. I invite
you to seek to know what you should bury right now. I know that as you bury
your own weapons of war, you will be able to feel your Heavenly Fathers love
for you more abundantly.
